Editorial Standards & Methodology
At Built PC, reader trust is our absolute foundation. We maintain strict standards across our hardware recommendations, component evaluations, and technical guides.
1. Strict Independence & Commercial Separation
Our editorial team operates completely independently of commercial relationships. While Built PC earns affiliate commissions through qualifying purchases on Amazon UK, our product selections, ratings, and buying recommendations are made solely based on merit, value for UK consumers, and technical performance.
Manufacturers and retailers have zero influence over which products we recommend. We never accept payment to promote specific hardware or alter negative assessments.
2. Distinction of Claims & Data Verification
We strictly adhere to factual honesty:
- No Fabricated Testing: We never claim hands-on testing unless physical testing was conducted in our workshop.
- Clear Attribution: Manufacturer specifications (such as TDP, clock speeds, and memory bus widths) are explicitly distinguished from independent third-party laboratory measurements and our own editorial evaluations.
- Verified Benchmarks: All frame rate averages and 1% low metrics presented in our guides reflect verified data under standardised test conditions (ambient 21°C room temperature, clean Windows 11 installation, and verified drivers).
3. Selection Criteria for PC Builds
When designing our recommended PC configurations, our engineers follow four unbending rules:
- Platform Longevity: We favour motherboard sockets with confirmed multi-year upgrade paths (such as AMD Socket AM5) rather than recommending obsolete platforms to artificially cut costs.
- Electrical Safety: We never recommend tier-less or uncertified power supplies. Every PSU must meet 80 Plus Gold / Cybenetics standards with proper over-current protection.
- Acoustic & Thermal Balance: We verify case clearance and airflow to prevent thermal throttling under sustained British summer temperatures.
- Value in British Pounds (£): Components are chosen based on current street prices in the UK market, not theoretical MSRP in foreign currencies.
4. Corrections & Regular Updates
Hardware specifications and prices change rapidly. Every substantial buying guide displays both its original publication date and its last substantive update date. If an error is identified, we correct it promptly with transparent notice. Readers can report discrepancies via corrections@BuiltPC.co.uk.
